Managing the Turn Down

Ahhhhh, the morning blog. I promise this will not be so boring to all of you who are questioning the workforce nowadays. I want to share something deeply personal with you—my journey through the often frustrating and emotional world of job searching. This is a topic that weighs heavily on many of us, especially when we’re so close to landing that perfect opportunity, only to face disappointment at the finish line.

The Emotional Rollercoaster

Let me take you back to a time when I was eagerly waiting to hear back after an interview that felt like a perfect match. I had put in the effort, polished my resume, and prepared thoroughly for each question. So, when the email, yes, email and not the personal call, came in saying they had chosen another candidate, my heart sank. I started to spiral into a whirlwind of self-doubt. I begin to reach out to my friends and peers.

• “Was my resume not up to par?”

• “Did I say something wrong during the interview?”

• “Is my reputation somehow tarnished?”

These questions haunted me. It’s easy to let negative thoughts seep in and convince yourself that maybe you’re just not good enough. But here’s the truth: rejection is not a reflection of your worth or abilities. It may be an answer you never get folks. And yes, that stinks.

Staying Positive

It’s crucial to maintain a positive mindset during these challenging times. While it’s natural to feel disheartened, allowing those feelings to take control can derail your job search and dampen your spirit. Instead, focus on what you can control. YES, I said it. YOU CONTROL!

1. Learn and Adapt: Each interview is a learning opportunity. Reflect on what went well and what could be improved. Use this knowledge to enhance your future applications.

2. Seek Feedback: If possible, reach out to the interviewer for feedback. Understanding their perspective can provide valuable insights and help you grow.

3. Stay Active: Keep applying to positions that excite you. The right fit is out there, and sometimes it takes several tries to find it.

4. Network: Engage with your professional community. You never know where a connection might lead. Often, opportunities arise from conversations rather than formal applications.

Stay Busy and Leverage Your Skills

In the meantime, it’s essential to stay busy and utilize your unique skills and certifications. For instance, I teach college courses, am a notary in two states, can instruct ServSafe, and have the technical acumen to teach various CRM systems and skill-building classes.

These experiences not only keep me engaged but also enhance my marketability. You can do the same! Whether it’s teaching, freelancing, or consulting in areas where you excel, these activities can provide fulfillment and help you stand out in a competitive job market.

It was this thought process that allowed me to find a little company that no one know…REMEDY. Why REMEDY, because that’s what the word means. When used as a verb, it means finding a solution to a challenge, obstacle, issue or an undesirable solution where you SUCCEED!

Lastly, do not forget that engaging in these pursuits allows you to do what you love while keeping your skills sharp.

The Importance of Job Security

While I have a skill set that few possess, I recognize that security in a job with a solid company is everything. That’s when you truly know you’ve made it! Having that stability not only provides peace of mind but also allows you to thrive in your career without the constant worry of uncertain circumstances.

The Bottom Line: Sell Yourself, But Also the Company

The bottom line is this: while you’re selling yourself to potential employers, make sure the company is selling itself to you as well. Don’t just settle for any position. When they ask, “Why should we hire you?” take the opportunity to respond with confidence by asking back, “Why should I come work for you?”

This approach not only shows your self-worth but also prompts the employer to reflect on what they can offer you. It’s a respectful way to ensure that the fit is mutual.

Gratitude for Your Support System

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the job search, don’t forget to be thankful for the people who have always been in your corner. These are the individuals who make it a point to check in on you, even when they’re busy with their own lives.

• The ones who send you links to job openings and think you’d be a good fit for.

• Those who genuinely care about you and your career.

They are diamonds in the rough, and their support can make a world of difference during this journey. If you are like me and have a Perry, Greg, Sybil, Pascale or Josh in your life…..Make sure to acknowledge and appreciate them. They are the few, the proud!

Keep Pushing Forward

Remember, as someone with a proven track record in sales and marketing, the right position will come along. Your skills and experience are valuable, and persistence is key. Staying aggressive in your search while maintaining a positive outlook can significantly impact your results.

It’s important to remind yourself that every “no” brings you one step closer to the right“yes.” So, keep your chin up and continue to push forward.

Job searching can feel like a daunting journey, but it doesn’t have to be a lonely one. Surround yourself with supportive friends and mentors, and lean on them during tough times.

As the founder of Remedy Sales and Marketing, I can tell you that resilience and positivity are essential not just in the job search, but in every aspect of life.

Stay strong, stay positive, and keep striving for that perfect opportunity.
